Applications and services with a Pass rating have met our minimum requirements for privacy and security practices. Before using an application or service with this rating, parents, teachers, schools, and districts are strongly advised to read the full privacy evaluation as a starting point for the process of vetting the application or service. In addition, a more detailed review should happen before any child or student data is shared with a product.

Overview

This is an example of a full privacy evaluation that does not transparently answer any of our full evaluation questions, except all the questions used in our rating criteria are transparently answered with better answers which results in a Pass rating that meets our minimum requirements for privacy and security practices.

A higher score means the product provides more transparent and comprehensive privacy policies with better practices to protect user data. Products that receive a low overall score are not necessarily unsafe, because they can receive either a "pass" or "warning" rating depending on how they answer the most important rating criteria questions.

Each privacy evaluation contains concern categories (below) that are organized by the most important and easy-to-understand privacy practices to quickly evaluate how an application or service compares to similar products. Each privacy evaluation concern consists of ten evaluation questions to provide a comprehensive analysis of the most important strengths and weaknesses of a product. A green check mark indicates a product's policies disclose that they engage in a better privacy practice, and an yellow alert icon indicates that the particular practice is risky or unclear and that users should investigate further prior to use.

Overall Score

Every privacy rating includes an overall score. A higher score (up to 100%) means the product provides more transparent privacy policies with better practices to protect user data. The score is best used is as an indicator of how much additional work a person will need to do to make an informed decision about a product.

Concerns
