Privacy Evaluation for Canva: Design, Photo & Video
Overview
Canva: Design, Photo & Video is a free photo editor and video editor in one graphic design app. The terms say by default, all content a user posts on Canva is private. However, users may make their content public and share designs with others within the service. Students may use Canva Sites if the functionality is enabled by their teacher, school or school district. These will not be indexed by search engines by default, meaning that they cannot be found by Google or another browser search and can only be accessed by people with the specific link. All designs in a Canva for Education account are private by default so that only people specifically added to the design can access it. A student may make their design public so that anyone with the link can access, view, or edit it.
In addition, the terms say Canva does not sell users' data to third parties, but the terms do say Canva may send users third-party marketing communications and use personal information to display targeted advertisements on the service. Canva's terms also say they may use third-party tracking technologies on the service, profile users for advertising, and track users on other apps and services across the internet for commercial purposes. However, Canva's terms also say they do not serve advertising to students using Canva for Education. Canva's terms say they care about the security of users' information, and they use reasonable safeguards to preserve the integrity and security of all information collected through the service. Lastly, users can access, modify, delete, and export data from the service at any time.
Canva can be accessed through its website and is available for download at the iOS App Store, and the Google Play Store. The Privacy Policy and Terms of Use used for this evaluation can be found on Canva’s website. Additionally, other policies used for this evaluation include: Privacy Center, Security at Canva, Data Processing Addendum, and Cookie Policy. This evaluation only considers policies that have been made publicly available prior to an individual using the application or service.
