Overview

ReadWorks allows students to improve their reading comprehension with access to thousands of high-quality, free K-12 articles, and teachers can use ReadWorks to create online assignments with them. The terms state ReadWorks may share user information with a child’s teacher and classmates. However, ReadWorks' policies do not disclose whether student data can be sold or rented or if student data could be used for third-party marketing purposes. In addition, ReadWorks's policies do not mention encryption of personal information in their policies - only that they use "standard security measures". Lastly, the terms state that ReadWorks will obtain parental consent for the collection and use of any information from users under 13 years of age.

ReadWorks can be accessed through its website. The Privacy Policy and Terms of Use used for this evaluation can be found on ReadWorks’s website. This evaluation only considers policies that have been made publicly available prior to an individual using the application or service.

Safety

The terms state ReadWorks may share user information with a child’s teacher and classmates. For example, ReadWorks may share information a child submits with their child's teacher. In addition, the terms state ReadWorks may also post a roster containing a child’s name that is visible to other students in that child’s class.

Privacy

The terms state ReadWorks collects personal information and automatically collected usage data from students. However, ReadWorks' policies do not disclose whether student data can be sold or rented or if student data could be used for third-party marketing purposes. The terms also state ReadWorks may combine information of users that they have collected offline with information they collect online, and they may combine information they obtain from third parties.

The terms state ReadWorks uses standard security measures, but the policies do not mention encryption of personal information or whether notification is provided to users in the event of a data breach.

The terms state that ReadWorks will obtain parental consent for the collection and use of any information from users under 13 years of age.
