Overview

Storybird is an online, creative writing platform for students, teachers, homeschoolers, and individuals to publish their writing and illustrations. The policy states users may interact with other members while using the site through accessing user content, offering feedback or posting comments. The policy specifies personal information such as name, age, email address, google user ID, and usage information are collected by Storybird. Furthermore, the policy confirms Storybird employs third party services for assistance in mailing, database maintenance, hosting services, analytics, and processing payments. The policy states Storybird shares only the minimal amount of information needed for service providers to complete their tasks and that Storybird holds these service providers accountable for data security. The policy clearly states Storybird does not sell or rent data. Storybird confirms information is never disclosed for third party advertising, but it is not clear if information is shared for marketing purposes or not. SAFETY The policy states user content is displayed publicly for other users to view. Storybird employs filters and live moderation, but does not claim to monitor every piece of content for appropriateness or personal information. In addition, the policy states Storybird reserves the right to monitor user interactions, but does not have the obligation to become involved.

PRIVACY The policy does not indicate if any third party or social login is supported by the site. The policy states users may receive marketing communications via email and that users may unsubscribe at any time. SECURITY The policy states users must create an account to become a member of the site and that Storybird provides accounts for teachers to manage their classroom dashboard and students’ accounts. The policy does not indicate if multi-factor authentication is used to protect the security of user accounts. In addition, the policy indicates Storybird employs encryption of data in transit but does not indicate if data encryption is used for data in storage.

COMPLIANCE The policy confirms users are able to submit original content to the site such as designs, text, graphics, picture, video, and other files.
