Privacy Evaluation for Cisco Webex

Last updated July 23, 2020

Overview

Cisco Webex Meetings provides video conferencing, online meetings, screen sharing, and webinars. The terms say users can communicate with trusted and untrusted individuals when they participate in a discussion forum, local communities, or chat rooms. Also, the terms say users should be aware that the information they provide (i.e. a public profile) will be made broadly available to others, and could be used to allow others to contact a user or send them unsolicited messages. The terms say Cisco will not rent or sell a user's personal information, and parents and educators can change their privacy settings and preferences at any time with the Cisco Profile Management Tool. In addition, the terms say Cisco may share a user's personal information with third parties so they can send users personalized marketing communications. Lastly, the terms say Cisco allows third-party partners to use cookies or similar tracking technologies in order to provide users with targeted advertising based on their browsing activities and interests on their site and across the internet.

The terms also say Cisco implements physical, administrative, and technical safeguards designed to protect a user's personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. The terms say users can access, modify, delete, and export their personal data at any time, but the terms do not discuss any use by students or educators in K-12 schools or districts. The terms say Cisco encourages parents and guardians to take an active role in their children's online activities and that Cisco does not knowingly collect personal information from children without appropriate parental or guardian consent. However, the terms do not specify how parents can actually provide consent for their children under 13 years old to use the service.

Cisco Webex can be accessed through its website, and is available for download at the iOS App Store, and the Google Play Store. The Privacy Policy and Terms of Use used for this evaluation can be found on Cisco’s website. Additionally, other policies used for this evaluation include: Cisco Webex Meetings Privacy Data Sheet, and Universal Cloud Agreement. This evaluation only considers policies that have been made publicly available prior to an individual using the application or service.
